Three die on products tanker
Arionas
FRENCH police are today investigating the deaths of three seafarers on the Greek products tanker Arionas.
Sources close to the incident told Fairplay today that police are not convinced that food poisoning is to blame, as has been suggested by some authorities.
Doctors are assisting the inquiry into the deaths,
The Marshall Islands-flagged tanker was sailing through the Channel, laden with 27,850 tonnes of fuel, when French coastguards received an emergency call from the captain early this morning.
The ship had a crew of 20 Russians and Filipinos. It had been travelling from Cyprus to Rotterdam, the French maritime authority said.
Arionas is managed by Capital Ship Management of Piraeus, and its owner is listed as Carnation Shipping.
